"An Ancient and Historic Place -The Archaeology of Cheadle"
The Cheadle Civic Society has funded the production of a full colour 54 page booklet about the ancient history and archaeology of Cheadle, called "An Ancient and Historic Place -the archaeology of Cheadle".
The booklet has been jointly written by Norman Redhead of the Greater Manchester Archaeological Advisory Service and Civic Society committee member and Ian Miller of Oxford Archaeology North.
The booklet is heavily illustrated with many revealing photographs and covers many aspects of Cheadle history from the bronze age and earlier to the more recent corn mills and other industrial concerns which were dotted around Cheadle in the 18tth and 19th Centuries. There is also brief histories of some of Cheadle's great homes, such as Abney Hall and Moseley Old Hall which have also been a key part of the local landscape for more than 150 years.
For anyone interested in the history of the area, the booklet contains a considerable amount of facts, figures and other useful information and is nicely presented in an easy to read format.
"An Ancient and Historic Place -the archaeology of Cheadle" costs £5 (with free P&P)
