The 56th Cheadle Civic Society AGM will take place in the Upper Rooms (above Tesco Express on Wilmslow Road) on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020

Talk

Following the meeting, local journalist David Hulme will give a talk entitled: "The Vernon Mill Fire of 1902". This was one of the worst local industrial tragedies of the 20th Century when 10 men were killed at this large Stockport cotton mill. 

 

David's own grandfather, Issak Peet, was one of those who was killed and as such he has taken a very personal interest in the tragedy and has undertaken considerable research into exactly what happened.
